If you are a Spanish resident in Mexico and need a power of attorney in Spain — to sell a property, manage an inheritance, cancel a mortgage, or any other procedure — you don't need to take a flight back. With Notaría Online, you can process it via video call from Mexico in 24-48 hours, with full legal validity.
Is it possible to process a Spanish power of attorney from Mexico?
Yes, completely. The Law 11/2023 on Spanish notarial digitalization allows the notary to authorize public deeds with the signatory appearing via videoconference from anywhere in the world, including Mexico. The resulting document has exactly the same validity as if you had signed in person at a Spanish notary office.
Do I need an apostille for the power to work in Spain?
No. If the power of attorney is granted before a Spanish notary (via videoconference), it is already a Spanish public document that does not need an apostille to be used in Spain. The apostille is only needed when you want to use a foreign document in another country.
If, instead, you choose to grant the power before a Mexican notary, that document would need an apostille (Mexico has been a signatory to the Hague Convention since 1995) to be recognized in Spain.

Alternative: power before the Spanish consulate in Mexico
There is the option to go to the Spanish consulate or embassy in Mexico to grant the power before the consul (who acts as a notary). Spanish consulates in Mexico are located in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and other cities. However, appointment wait times are usually several weeks, and the process is slower. The video call with Notaría Online is the fastest and most convenient alternative.
