Hague Apostille online and urgent: how to obtain it in Spain

Notaría Online
·

The Hague Apostille is the official seal that makes a Spanish public document valid in any of the more than 120 countries signatories to the Hague Convention of 1961. If you need to apostille a notarial power, a deed, a birth certificate or any other official document urgently, we explain how the process works in Spain and how we manage it online from Notaría Online.

What is the Hague Apostille?

It is an official annotation that certifies the authenticity of a public document issued in Spain so that it has validity in other countries. Without the apostille, a foreign notary or registry might not recognize the Spanish document. With it, the document circulates directly, without the need for consular legalization.

What documents can be apostilled in Spain?

  • Notarial documents: powers of attorney, wills, deeds, minutes
  • Judicial documents: judgments, orders, certifications
  • Civil Registry documents: birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates
  • Administrative documents: university degrees, criminal record certificates

Who apostilles in Spain?

In Spain, the apostille is issued by:

  • The Ministry of Justice (through the electronic registry) for notarial and Civil Registry documents.
  • The Superior Courts of Justice of each autonomous community for judicial documents.
  • The Ministry of Universities for academic titles.

How does the urgent apostille work?

Since 2020, the Spanish Ministry of Justice manages the apostille electronically. The timeframe for the electronic apostille of notarial documents is 2 to 5 business days. At Notaría Online, we handle the apostille for the powers of attorney and deeds we grant, including the international shipment of the apostilled document.

Process with Notaría Online

  1. You grant the power of attorney or deed via video call with our notary
  2. We manage the apostille before the Ministry of Justice (2-5 business days)
  3. We send the apostilled document to your address in any country in the world

The total process from the video call until you receive the apostilled power of attorney at home is 10 to 14 calendar days.

In which countries is the Hague Apostille valid?

In all countries signatories to the Hague Convention of 1961. Some of the most important:

  • Europe: all EU countries, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey
  • America: U.S., Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador
  • Asia-Pacific: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Israel

For non-signatory countries (some in Africa and Asia), the document requires consular legalization, which we can also manage.

How much does the apostille cost in Spain?

The Ministry of Justice charges a fee of approximately 6.01 euros per apostilled document. The management fees of Notaría Online are additional. Check our rates or request a personalized quote.
