Oath of nationality before a notary

The oath of nationality before a notary is an important and exciting process for those who wish to obtain Spanish citizenship. Although it is a relatively straightforward process, many people have doubts about the time it takes and the steps they must follow to complete it. In this article, we will discuss the details of the process of taking the oath of nationality before a notary and how Notaria-Online.com can help you complete the process quickly and efficiently.

What is the oath of nationality before a notary?

It is the act by which a person who has obtained Spanish nationality by residence swears or promises to uphold the Spanish Constitution and laws and renounces their previous nationality. This act can be performed before a notary instead of at a Civil Registry, which may be more convenient for some people.

How long does the entire process usually take?

First, it is necessary to submit the application for the oath of nationality before a notary at the corresponding Civil Registry. Once the application has been submitted, an appointment with the notary will be scheduled. The time it takes to schedule the appointment depends on the workload of the Civil Registry, but generally, it is usually scheduled within two to four weeks from the submission of the application. Once the oath is taken before the notary, the minutes of the oath will be sent to the Civil Registry for registration, and subsequently, the certificate of Spanish nationality will be issued. The timeframe to obtain this certificate may vary, but it is usually between one and three months.
